To Our Valued Patients:
We would like to thank you for your support of Glacier Dermatology in 2018! It has been a year with plenty of activity as we founded a new dermatology clinic and strived to build a staff and a practice you would be pleased to be a part of. You have shown your support by joining us as our patients, and for that we are most grateful.
We are now pleased to announce that in the new year we will further expand opportunities for dermatology care in the Flathead Valley, by diverging into two new practices that will replace the current Glacier Dermatology. Dr. Owen will open her new solo practice, Sylvia A. Owen MD PC, and Brooke Schmidt PA-C will open her new practice, Montana Sky Dermatology PC, both after the January 31st closure of Glacier Dermatology. Our hope is that by creating two new clinics from the current one, we will expand the diversity of care available, and prepare to attract new dermatology providers to the area to increase access to care.
We are working to insure a smooth transition for all of our patients, including a seamless transfer of your medical records to the new practices. While our new practice locations and phone numbers are still being finalized, we hope to begin seeing patients in our new practices in early 2019, as soon as feasible.
We are in the process of obtaining “credentialing,” or acceptance from Medicare and insurance companies, for our new clinics. That will allow us to bill your insurance and be “in network” so that you receive preferred rates. This process must be started anew when a practitioner changes practice location and can take 2-3 months. Thus, how soon we will be able to see you in our new practices may depend upon how quickly your insurance company adds us to their provider list.
We will continue to see scheduled patients at our current location, Glacier Dermatology, until January 31, 2019. As soon as we are able to begin scheduling for our new clinics, we will contact those patients who are on our waiting lists to schedule appointments. There is nothing you need to do in the interim.
Our goal is for this transition to impact you, our patients, as minimally as possible. We will do our best to be up and running in our new locations as soon as we can. You will be free to continue care in either clinic of your choice (your records will follow your provider), or in any of the other area dermatology clinics. Any emergency care needs during the transition phase may be handled by your primary care provider or by one of the local urgent care clinics.
You may continue to access your Glacier Dermatology records via our patient portal until January 2019, and thereafter via Dr. Owen or Brooke Schmidt at one of the two new clinics. Please call if you need more information on how to use the patient portal. If you would like your records to be transferred to another clinic or be sent to you, please contact us at 406-314-6336 and we will assist you with that process.
We look forward to taking this exciting step toward providing northwest Montana with new options for dermatology care. Please follow updates on our Facebook page (Glacier Dermatology) or on our website, www.glacierdermatology.com.
Thank you for your continued loyalty and support as we strive to serve you better!
Sylvia A. Owen MD Brooke K. Schmidt PA-C
